The official answers
Critics say that the Saudi government should have done more
to prevent these tragedies. The government of Saudi Arabia insists that any
mass meeting, are inherently dangerous and difficult to manage, and that they
have taken a series of measures to avoid problems Umrah Package December 2017.
One of the biggest steps, which is also controversial, is a
new system of registers, passports and visas to control the flow of pilgrims.
This system is designed to stimulate and accommodate visitors for the first
time to Mecca, while restricting repeated visits. Pilgrims who have the means
and desire to perform the Hajj several times have protested what they see as
discrimination, but the Hajj Commission has stated that they do not see another
alternative if new tragedies can be prevented.
After the 2004 stampede, the Saudi authorities embarked on
construction work in and around the Jamarat bridge area. Additional access
roads, walkways, and emergency exits were built, and the three cylindrical
pillars were replaced by concrete walls to allow greater simultaneous access to
the pilgrims without the pushes and struggle for the position of recent years.
The government has also announced a multi-million dollar project to expand the
five-tiered bridge; The project is scheduled for completion in time for the
1427 AH (December 2006-January 2007) Hajj.
